Stelios gets an honourary doctorate from Cranfield University

HONORARY GRADUANDS AT CRANFIELD UNIVERSITY

Today, Friday 9 June, easyGroup chairman, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, is among six distinguished people who are to be honoured with a Doctor of Science (DSc) by Cranfield University.

During three ceremonies to be held at Cranfield University today, the University will award honorary doctorates to outstanding individuals, who have shown exceptional commitment and dedication within their business, academic or professional careers.

Professor Frank Hartley, Cranfield's Vice-Chancellor, commented: "We are delighted to honour a group of people whose diverse achievements have contributed so much to the engineering, industrial, manufacturing and management communities. Many of this year's honorary graduands have a special link with the University and they are excellent role models for students who are graduating this year."

THE CRANFIELD COLLEGE OF AERONAUTICS
THE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
Honorary Graduands: Doctor of Science (DSc)

Mr Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Chairman, easyGroup. A serial entrepreneur, Stelios has established more than 16 ventures and is probably best known for creating easyJet, Europe> '> s largest low cost airline. Other easyGroup companies cover areas as diverse as car hire, personal finance, music downloads and cruises.

Mr Michael Markin, Science & Technology Director, MoD. A leading authority in military and civil aircraft avionics research who has embraced a number of roles at the British Aircraft Corporation at Filton, the Guided Weapons Department of the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough, and the Ministry of Defence Headquarters.

THE SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING SCIENCE
Honorary Graduands: Doctor of Science (DSc)

Mr Richard Olver, Chairman, BAE Systems. During 30 years at BP plc, Richard Olver worked his way up to number two position and was responsible for much of the company> '> s new business development. He was appointed Chairman of BAE Systems plc on 1 July 2004.

Ms Stella Dorsett, European President, Cookson Precious Metals. Stella Dorsett joined Cookson in 1986 and was instrumental in the acquisition of various further companies and in the integration into new markets. She was promoted to European President a little over 3 years ago. Stella was also the first woman to hold the role of Chairperson of the British Jewellers association.

THE CRANFIELD SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
Honorary Graduands: Doctor of Science (DSc)

Baroness Sarah Hogg, Chairman, 3i Group plc and Deputy Chairman, GKN. Sarah Hogg is Chairman of 3i, Europe's leading venture capital company. She is a director of BG Group plc and the dual-listed company, Carnival Corporation and Carnival plc, and Deputy Chairman of GKN plc. She also chairs Frontier Economics Limited, a consultancy founded in 1999 to specialise in the provision of strategic and competition advice and the economics of regulation.

Sir Derek Morris, Provost, Oriel College, Oxford and former Chairman, Competition Commission. Sir Derek is an expert in the field of industrial economics; specializing in financial and managerial economics, work on productivity and on industrial development in the Chinese economy. He has written 6 books and authored over 50 articles or chapters.

Mr Ian Odgers, Director of Odgers Ray & BerndtsonIn addition, a Distinguished Alumnus Award is to be presented to Mr Ian Odgers, Director of Odgers Ray & Berndtson. Shortly after graduating from Cranfield School of Management in 1966, Ian became the Chairman of the first Cranfield MBA Alumnus Association and then joined the original committee of the Business Graduates Association, the forerunner of the Association of MBA's. Ian generously established the Odgers Prize at Cranfield, which is now in its twentieth year, for the student judged to show the most potential for a highly successful career in management.
